What I learned from smashing my iPhone screen

So yesterday morning I went out for jog.

And before I’d got 100 meters down the road, I took out my phone to check the time and promptly dropped it onto the sidewalk, shattering the screen into a hundred pieces.

My first reaction was that I started laughing!  I couldn’t believe it.

I’ve dropped my phone COUNTLESS times.  (Those who have spent time with me can attest that I can be a little clumsy… delightfully awkward, I like to think of it ;-)

But I’ve never had a scratch.

The timing felt nothing short of miraculous.

I mean really… I’m in the midst of shooting videos from my phone for my upcoming Mindful Eating course.  And I’m trying to limit excess spending at the moment. And we all know iphones don’t come cheap.  I’ve been putting off getting a new one for about 2 years for that reason.

So for the next 20 minutes as I jogged around the neighborhood, I thought “Alright.  There is a gift here. I know there is.”

a) the timing is crazy

b) for some reason, I couldn’t stop smiling!  Somehow I knew - the universe is helping me here.

So I went home and started researching how much much new cell phones and new plans were gonna cost me.

And then...

I had an impulse to reach out to a colleague at the hospital where I still pick up shifts.  I asked if there are any corporate deals on phone plans at the moment for employees.

And guess what?  There was a new employee discount out that basically allowed me to pay the same amount I’m paying now, but get WAY more data and extra features.

AND, with that deal, I could upgrade to an iPhone 8 (way better than my 6!) for FREE.

And I never would have known about this awesome upgrade that was available to me if I hadn’t shattered my phone that morning.

The truth is, this kind of thing is happening ALL THE TIME.

But when we’re focusing on the negative - we miss it.

How could life be different for you right now if you decided that everything is happening FOR you.

It’s kind of radical, right?  We’ve trained our brains so well to focus on what’s NOT going well.

But it’s true.  And when you start embracing this principle, you will feel the joy of it all around you.

The universe is always conspiring in your favor.

Where in your life have you been focused on the negative?

Afraid of what might happen?

Ruminating on what could have been?

Attached to a particular outcome?

Now take a few long deep breaths.

Feel into your heart space. Feel the aliveness in your body.

What are the gifts here for you?

Comment below and let me know what you find!  I’d love to hear from you.

Lots of love,
